Saturday, May 3, marked the second day of the 23rd annual Musco Twilight track and field meet at the Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track in Coralville. Schools from around the state, as well as Nebraska and North Dakota, came to compete in multiple events.
University of Iowa freshman Maria Arboleda won the women’s high jump competition with a jump of 1.88 meters, breaking the University’s previous school record. Sophomore Sydnie Smith also took first place for women’s discus, with a throw of 54.62 meters.
The men’s 200-meter race was swept by University of Northern Iowa runners, with junior Deonte Dean coming in first with a time of 21.29. University of Iowa freshman Kyle Montgomery won the men’s 3,000-meter race against all Creighton University opponents with a time of 8:34.74.
Seniors of the Iowa track and field team and their family and friends were also recognized with applause from the audience during the day’s events.
