The No. 1 Hawkeyes defeated the Spartans, 3-1, during a match at Grant Field in Iowa City on Sunday. 356 fans attended the match in upper 80-degree weather.
Iowa’s Alex Wesneski and Dionne van Aalsum both scored in the first period and Hillary Cox scored in the third. Michigan State’s Ellie Rutherford scored in the first period, but Iowa’s defense shut out Michigan State for the remainder of the game.
The Hawkeyes take on Northwestern in Iowa City at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6.
