A North Liberty man has been accused of straddling a female victim and choking her with his hands.

Austin Henning, 40, was charged March 21 with possession of a controlled substance — marijuana and domestic abuse/assault impeding air or blood flow.

According to the arrest affidavit, police were called to the area to investigate a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers heard female screaming inside of the residence and discovered Henning and the victim in a bedroom. Henning has abrasions on his hands, and open cuts were located on the side of the victim’s necks.

Witnesses stated that they had seen Henning straddling the woman and choking her with his hands, the affidavit said. The bruises on her neck were consistent with finger marks.

Officers also found suspected marijuana inside the residence.

Domestic abuse/assault impeding air or blood flow is a Class-D felony.
