Iowa City property manager accused of stealing over $16,000

An Iowa City man has been accused of stealing $16,366.35. 

Jacob Schwebke, 30, 208 Silver Lane, was charged March 4 with first-degree theft. 

According to the arrest affidavit, Schwebke was a property manager who worked as an agent with an Iowa City-based real estate company. Schwebke was entrusted with two real estate bank accounts as part of his duties as a property manager. 

Schwebke wrote himself checks from the two accounts — misappropriating the funds — and transferred the funds electronically to his accounts for personal benefit, the affidavit said. In total, his misappropriated $16,366.35. 

First-degree theft is a Class-C felony.
