The Cloakroom: Connecting candidates to campus

In Iowa, campaign field organizers are in heavy demand — personal connections are king when persuading Iowans to turn out and stand in a Democratic presidential candidate’s corner on caucus night. Several University of Iowa students are volunteering for campaigns, and graduates have returned to organize campus campaigns in Iowa City. Whether it’s knocking doors, forming Hawkeyes for [candidate name], or organizing campus events, student organizers juggle their political advocacy work with their day-to-day school schedules. Our podcast host, Jake Nemmers, talked with organizers from three presidential campaigns on what it’s like to be in the field a couple months ahead of the the first-in-the-nation caucus.
