Tate High School student charged with bringing a toy gun to school

A Tate High School student was charged Wednesday for bringing a toy gun to the school.

According to a release from the City of Iowa City, a parent reported that they saw a gun exchange occur in the school parking lot on Tuesday.

The identities of the students were confirmed in a surveillance video, the release said, but no gun could be seen on the tape.

Following further police investigation, the release said, a Tate High School student was found to have been showing another student a toy gun.

The student was charged with carrying a toy gun in city limits before being released to their parent, the release said.
