The Iowa-Iowa State football game has been delayed for a second time due to lightning. According to Iowa Radio, the teams are looking at a 6:45 p.m. restart.

The Cyclones lead the Hawkeyes, 7-3, after scoring a touchdown on a 51-yard double pass from Deshaunte Jones to La’Michael Pettway following a 49-minute lightning delay in the first quarter.

The game was delayed for a second time with 13:24 remaining in the second quarter. Shortly the referees announced the latter delay, it announced that hail could be on the way to Jack Trice Stadium.

At that point, fans departed Jack Trice, except for a small portion of the Cyclones’ student section. A torrential downpour has since graced Ames.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Story County at 5:36 p.m.

Play resumes 30 minutes after the last lightning strike within an eight-mile radius. It’s also worth noting that both teams have a bye week on Nov. 2 if the game were to be postponed.

Fans and media members alike have been trying to figure out what to do during the break. The downtime allowed the Iowa State student section to rush the field.
