Daily Iowan: What do you plan on listening to before games this season?
Smith: Favorite artist is by far Lil Wayne. Hands down. I’m more into
his mixtapes than his albums, like Dedication 6. When he dropped
Dedication 6: Reloaded, I was in the dorms freaking out because he
had just dropped Dedication 6 and maybe two or three days later, he
dropped Reloaded. There were 15 or 16 songs on it. I always listen
to that.
DI: You got to do a photoshoot with a hawk this year. What was that like?
Smith: The bird, the hawk. At first, I’m not going to lie, it was kind
of scary. Its claws were sharp and huge. And its beak. I was looking
down to smile for the picture, and its beak was just scary. I got over
it, and it was kind of cool; I kind of wanted one. I didn’t want to
give him up.
DI: What’s your go-to restaurant in Iowa City?
Smith: I really like Airliner. I get the F-16 Burger. It’s got
barbecue sauce on it, onion rings on it. Always good.
DI: What’re your thoughts on the gold uniforms Iowa will wear in the
game against Penn State?
Smith: We have some people who didn’t really like them — they thought
they were kind of like banana peels or something. I like them because
it’s just different.
DI: Is there a professional athlete you look up to?
Smith: Julio Jones. Big-body receiver. His play talks for him so he
doesn’t have to talk a lot.
DI: What’s your favorite move to do off a diving board?
Smith: I really can’t explain it. So, in Mississippi, we have this
thing called a slice. It’s like a gainer or something, like a
backflip, but all stiff.
DI: What’s your favorite movie?
Smith: My favorite movie is Annabelle, all of [those]. And the Anabelle: Creation one. Oh my gosh.
DI: Favorite actor?
Smith: Kevin Hart. He’s hilarious. Everything he’s in is hilarious.
DI: Did you grow up playing any sports other than football?
Smith: I was a big baseball guy. I love baseball. I just started
playing football. And I was a big track guy, too, because my parents
love track. I didn’t like [it], though.
