Police respond to gunshots on W. Benton St., no injuries reported

Iowa City Police responded to multiple reports of gunshots at W. Benton St. at about 8 p.m. on Friday. No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

Iowa City police officers responded to numerous reports of gunshots on the 200 block of West Benton Street at around 8 p.m. June 21, according to a press release.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made. Officers were able to collect shell casings and bullets, and according to the release, witnesses reported the involved parties left the area before the police arrived.

Iowa City police urge nearby residents with security cameras to check their footage and to contact the department at (319) 356-5276 with any information on the incident. Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest, the press release said. Other information can be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 358-TIPS (8477).

This investigation is in its early stages and is still ongoing.
