Iowa City man accused of firearm possession, police evasion

Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of illegally possessing a firearm and evading police.

Dejuan Scott, 32, 436 Southgate Ave., was charged April 9 with dominion of a firearm by a felon and interference with official acts.

According to the arrest affidavit, authorities were called to the scene after receiving reports of a man dressed in all black displaying a weapon. When officers arrived at the scene, Scott began walking in the opposite direction, leading authorities on a foot chase. When confronted, Scott threw an object, later identified to be a firearm, into the grass. Scott has previous convictions for domestic assault and child endangerment causing injury.

Dominion of a firearm by a felon is a Class-D felony.
