The Iowa City Catholic Workers House demanded the removal of the new Pedestrian Mall benches on Monday afternoon, saying they discriminate against people who are homeless. The center bar in the middle of the benches prevents people from lying down or sleeping on them. Iowa City representatives have said the new benches were intended to create more seating space.
