TAMPA, Fla. – It went down to the wire, but Iowa defeated No. 18 Mississippi State, 27-22, to win the 2019 Outback Bowl.

Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley completed 21 of his 31 passes for 214 yards and 3 touchdowns, proving to be the offense’s catalyst on a day where there was little success in running the football.

Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, one of the country’s best dual-threat signal callers, did his damage on the ground, running for 103 yards and a touchdown. He struggled in the passing game, though, completing 14 of his 32 attempts for 152 yards and a score. He threw 2 interceptions.
