Iowa swimming and diving traveled to Minneapolis on Oct. 27 to take on Minnesota and South Dakota State. The Hawkeyes split the meet, which means both the men and women defeated South Dakota State and lost to Minnesota.

The Iowa men’s team fell in a close one to No. 18 Minnesota, losing 158.50-141.50. The men were not so disappointed against the Jackrabbits, as they dunked South Dakota State, 248-50.

To start the meet, the Iowa men finished second (3:18.34) in the 400-medley relay with the team of Kenneth Mende, Daniel Swanepoel, Jack Smith, and Michael Tenney. The Hawkeyes finished right behind Minnesota (3:15.01).

Mende also had some individual wins — one in the 100 back (49.47) and another in the 200 back (1:47.11). The 200 back was a close race for the Hawkeyes; freshman Anze Fers Erzen and junior Forrest White finished in second and third, respectively, giving Iowa the top three sweep.

The Iowa men demonstrated depth in freestyle, with junior Joe Myhre finishing second in the 50 free (19.99) and first in the 100 free (44.27). Smith had two bronze finishes to follow Myhre in the 50 free (20.51) and the 100 free (45.22). Right behind Smith was junior Will Scott, who finished fourth in the 50 free (20.53) and the 100 free (45.95).

The men notched a few more victories. Freshman Mateusz Arndt (4:28.73) and senior Ben Colin (4:34.27) finished 1-2 in the 500 free.

The men had a chance to come back to defeat Minnesota by getting a victory in the 400-free relay. Unfortunately, the Hawkeyes’ relay teams finished second and third to conclude the triangular.
