Iowa City man accused of assaulting his mother

Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of domestic assault.

Dakota Jack Washington, 26, 324 E. Davenport St., was charged on Oct. 13 with domestic-abuse/assault, third or subsequent offense, and obstruction of emergency communications.

According to the arrest affidavit, Washington threatened his mother, grabbed her wrists, and held her against a wall. He slapped the phone out of her hand as she tried to call 911 before he fled the scene.

He was later apprehended at a different location.

Domestic abuse/assault is a Class-D felony.
