Two people were injured in an early morning shooting on Sept. 29 that warranted a Hawk Alert sent to students, officials said in a press release.

The Iowa City police responded to a report of shots being fired near Gilbert and Court Streets around 1:55 a.m., the release said. Police found a male with a gunshot wound and another male with a gunshot wound around a block away. The two were treated at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Hawk Alert, sent out around 2 a.m. on Sept. 29 by the UI Public Safety Department, said the suspect is a black female with dreads wearing blue. The Iowa City press release did not describe the suspect.

Sgt. Jerry Blomgren said the Iowa City police are still investigating the nature of the crime.

Blomgren said individuals at the scene, along with those who were shot, were not cooperative. He said authorities do not know the identity of the shooter and why the event occurred. Surveillance footage will be used to gain a clearer understanding of the incident, Blomgren said.
