Iowa linebacker Nick Niemann will miss a couple weeks with a leg injury suffered on the last play against Wisconsin, Hawkeye head coach Kirk Ferentz said on his weekly teleconference.

Barrington Wade is listed next on the depth chart at outside linebacker, but Ferentz said it’s a possibility that Kristian Welch could move to the outside, as he has spent time there previously.

Entering the season with a new linebacker corps, Niemann has been a bright spot. Niemann racked up 22 tackles in the first four weeks, including 10 in the lost to the Badgers.

Cornerback Matt Hankins also left Sept. 22’s game due to injury, and was replaced by true freshman Julius Brents. Ferentz said Hankins has “a couple issues right now” and they will see how the week goes.

The bye week comes at a good time for the Hawkeyes, as they have some time to rest up and heal before hitting the road to take on Minnesota on Oct. 6.
