It’s been a week since the Hawkeyes’ spring-break trip to Mexico, and they’re back at it again, but this time north of the border in Tempe, Arizona.
Iowa will swing its clubs at the Arizona State Invitational this weekend, starting at 10 a.m. March 23, continuing March 24 again at 10 a.m., and finishing March 25 with a 9:30 a.m. tee time.
It will be a 14-team field, including a handful of ranked opponents: No. 18 Colorado, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 16 Washington, No. 15 TCU, and No. 8 Arizona State.
In the No. 1 spot for Iowa will be senior Jessica Ip, who is coming off a No. 11 finish at the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational, and she hopes to bring some momentum from her last performance into this weekend.
“I hit the ball well and made some momentum-building putts on the first day,” Ip said. “I was happy with my performance after 36 holes. I’m still feeling good about my game, so I’m excited and ready for this next event.”
Ip’s performance also drew praise from coach Megan Menzel, who said she had confidence in the golfer this weekend.
“Jessica had another solid week, and I know she has some strong golf ahead of her this next month,” Menzel said.
Also on the lineup card is junior Shawn Rennegarbe, freshman Rachel Fujitani, junior Kristin Glesne, and freshman Stephanie Herzog.
Herzog competed in last weekend’s Hawkeye El-Tigre as well and is coming off as strong finish.
In the last round that tournament, she carded three birdies to jump 13 spots on the individual leaderboard, ultimately finishing 57th with a three-round score of 235 (19-over).
Also competing in black and gold this weekend will be redshirt freshman Sarah Overton.
