Area man faces domestic-abuse charges
Authorities have accused a Coralville man of committing domestic abuse.
Andres Tlaxca-Valencia, 38, was charged Oct. 31 with domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood flow and domestic abuse/assault resulting in injury/mental illness.
According to the arrest affidavit, Tlaxca-Valencia hit a woman repeatedly on her head with a wooden spoon, and he then punched her in the head and chest. Tlaxca-Valencia also choked the woman, the affidavit said, resulting in visible markings and severe pain on her throat.
 The woman, the affidavit said, was in so much pain that she needed to be taken to the hospital.
Tlaxca-Valencia and the woman are married, the affidavit said, and they live together with their four children.
Domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood flow is a Class-D felony.
