Well, they did it. The football Hawkeyes finished the 2015 regular season without a loss. Here’s what happened in the first half, and below is what happened after the break. (Hint: Jordan Canzeri happened.)
- At halftime, the Iowa running back had 29 yards, he finished with 17 rushes for 140 yards And two bone-breaking touchdowns. One went 29 yards, one went 68. Game, set, match.
- Another note for Canzeri — he broke 2,000 career yards on that second touchdown run. What a senior year it’s been for a guy who hasn’t been able to stay healthy during the course of his career. That just makes you feel good.
- I cannot believe how bad Tommy Armstrong’s decision-making is. It’s mind-boggling. His last interception could not have been closer to Josey Jewell’s numbers. Just laughably bad. Armstrong finished with 4 interceptions; all were terribly thrown.
- Iowa’s defense got a little sideways in the fourth quarter. Nebraska had a chance to take some points and cut the lead to 8 points but decided to go for it on a fourth-and-1 from around the 20. They threw a fade into the end zone. It didn’t work. I do not know what person made that play call, but woof.
- On the officiating — Iowa had six penalties for 54 yards, and Nebraska had eight for 95. I don’t think it ended up winning the game for Iowa or losing the game for Nebraska, but it definitely was not good. Lots, and lots, and lots, and lots, and lots of laundry on the field today. Let the boys play.
- Defense summed up in the most three cliché words ever — “Bend, don’t break.”
- We’ll have varying coverage the rest of the night and in the paper when classes resume after the weekend, so be sure to check everything out there. It’s been a fun time this season, and it’s pretty wild Iowa has not lost a game. Really did not think it’d happen, like, at all. Ever. Here’s to some more fun, everyone.
