COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Iowa’s Jake Rudock and Mark Weisman turned in performances in a 38-31 losing effort to Maryland that helped push them further up a couple of all-time career lists.

Rudock completed 32-of-56 passes for 317 yards and 2 touchdowns on Oct. 18. He now has 27 passing touchdowns in his Iowa career, which ranks as the ninth-most in program history.

His 317 passing yards also marks the second time this season that Rudock threw for more than 300 yards — he threw for 322 in a 17-13 win over Ball State on Sept. 6.

Rudock didn’t comment on his milestones postgame, but he did expand on the struggles Iowa faced during the game. The junior was sacked four times in the loss and struggled to find open receivers throughout the afternoon.

“I can do things to help us with that,” Rudock said. “I can get the ball [out] and make decisions a little bit quicker. But … you have to give the team credit, but obviously there are things that I can do to help us move the chains a little bit better.”

Weisman ran for 78 yards on 10 carries and scored 2 touchdowns. It was his eighth multi-touchdown game of his career and his fourth-straight game with 2 touchdowns.

The senior rattled off a 38-yard run in the third quarter, a season long, which pushed him into 10th all-time among Iowa’s leading rushers. Weisman now has 2,217 career rushing yards on 499 carries.

Even more, his 26 career rushing touchdowns now rank third in program history, trailing only Sedrick Shaw and Brad Banks, who each had 33.

Asked if he had time to think about his accomplishments, Weisman said, “Maybe one day.”

“I don’t know, but right now, I don’t really care about that,” he said. “Right now, all that I care about is getting wins.”

Beathard was available

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said after his team’s loss to Maryland that backup quarterback C.J. Beathard was available to play if called upon.

“Oh, yeah,” Ferentz said. “He was available, but he was a little nicked up during the week.”

Beathard started in place of an injured Rudock on Sept. 27 and helped Iowa beat Purdue, 24-10. Against Indiana on Oct. 11, Beathard saw the field sparingly, completing just 2-of-5 passes for 9 yards.

Beathard did not see the field at all against Maryland.

Ferentz added that there wasn’t a lot of discussion about inserting Beathard into the game.

“Not much,” he said. “I’m sure there will be a little bit of it next week.”

Other notes

Defensive end Drew Ott and defensive back Sean Draper each recorded their first-ever interceptions in the Maryland game. Seven different Hawkeyes have interceptions this season.

Defensive tackle Louis Trinca-Pasat had 6 tackles, raising his season total to 45. That figure passes his previous season-high of 40, which he reached in 2012.

Junior Connor Kornbrath punted for the first time all season against Maryland. He punted five times and downed four of them inside the 20-yard line.

Running back Damon Bullock caught 8 passes for 100 yards, both career highs. He is Iowa’s first 100-yard receiver since tight end Jake Duzey had 138 receiving yards against Ohio State last season.

Iowa scored on its opening drive against Maryland, the first time it’s done that since the first week of the season, against Northern Iowa.
