KRUI will celebrate 30 years of broadcasting this weekend at the Blue Moose, 211 Iowa Ave.

To commemorate the anniversary, the radio station will host a concert today featuring Zeta June, Crystal City, Mitch Meyer, and Jack Baker.

The doors will open at 6 p.m., and the show will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $5.

Zeta June is a rock band based in Iowa City and composed of four members. Their music is influenced from a variety of musical genres including funk, blues, slap bass, classic, and synth rock.

They have toured with several regional bands including Future Rock, the Floozies, Dopapod, Roster McCabe, Euforquestra, John Wayne & the Pain, Tallgrass, and Dead Larry.

Crystal City is also based in Iowa City. The group’s name is inspired by Gram Parson’s song “Las Vegas," and its songs are influenced by “strong, interdependent harmonies” of Parsons and Emmylou Harris, according to the band’s website.

The UI radio station has changed forms over the years. It premièred in 1952 as KWAD, a station that served residence halls exclusively. The station became KRUI in the 1970s and transitioned to broadcasting as an FM station in 1984. It is now the second-largest student organization on campus, and it boasts being Iowa City’s “premier source” for the latest in independent and local music. It broadcasts a variety of music, older indie, pop, rock, electronic, hip-hop, jazz, and folk.
