Man charged with second-degree theft

A local man has been accused of defrauding a bank account of another individual and stealing that person’s personal information.

Timothy Washington, 25, address unknown, was charged with forgery and second-degree theft after he allegedly made fraudulent transactions at numerous Hills Bank and Trust locations.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Washington deposited a fraudulent check into a Hills Bank account of an unsuspecting person.

He took the debit or credit card of the witness and completed 15 transactions at various bank locations, causing a total loss of $2,222.64.

Washington was identified by the witness as the person that gave her the fraudulent deposit check and the person that took her card.

When the fraudulent check was returned, it caused a negative balance in the woman’s account, later incurred by Hills Bank.

Forgery and second-degree theft are Class-D felony charges.
