Former Hawkeye offensive lineman Mike Ferroni will be represented as the team’s honorary captain on Saturday before the kickoff of the Iowa/Purdue game in Kinnick Stadium.
Ferroni earned four letters during his Hawkeye tenure from 1989-92, and he was a member of the Rose Bowl squad in 1991 as well as being part of the co-Big Ten champions in 1990.
Ferroni helped two running backs rush for more than 1,000 yards in two separate seasons — Nick Bell in 1990 and Mike Saunders in 1991.
The lineman was also a team member of the Black and Gold squad that set a school record for victories at the time when the Hawkeyes went 10-1-1 in 1991.
The Iowa/Boilermaker game will kick off at 11:01 a.m. Saturday; it can be seen on the Big Ten Network. Ferroni will accompany the captains to the coin toss and meet with the current Hawkeyes before and after the game. The alumnus will also stay on the sidelines throughout the game.
