The Iowa soccer team (7-9-3, 0-7-2 Big Ten) will conclude its season Saturday against Purdue (6-11-2, 2-6-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
Both the Hawkeyes and Boilermakers have struggled in conference play this year. Purdue won’t advance past eighth place in the Big Ten, and it was pounded, 6-1, by Penn State in its last game.
Iowa locked up a last-place league finish with a loss to Michigan on Oct. 29. The Hawkeyes followed the 3-0 trouncing with their first positive result in more than a month, though — a hard-earned draw with Michigan State. Head coach Ron Rainey said he wants to see the same intensity against Purdue.
"They’re a team that’s very good on the ball," Rainey said. "They have a lot of skilled players, they have good athleticism, and they have a good goalkeeper [senior Carianne Betts is third in the conference in saves]. I’m looking forward to seeing how we come out."
The game will also be the last hurrah for a bevy of seniors. The team will honor defenders Jenna Aleo and Mandy Heimann, forwards Keli McLaughlin and Amanda Martin, and goalkeepers Kali Feiereisel and Stephanie Swanson.
