Iowa junior Brad Hopfinger earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors following an impressive showing at the Callaway Collegiate Match-Play Championship this week.
The tournament featured eight of the nation’s current top-20 teams, three of which the Hawkeyes defeated.
Hopfinger, the No. 23-ranked golfer, proved worthy of his ranking by knocking off three-consecutive top-100 opponents. The junior finished the tournament 3-1 to help give the Hawkeyes a fifth-place finish.
In the first round, Hopfinger overtook Arizona States No. 17 Jesper Kennegard, then Colorado States’ No. 84 Riley Arp in the second round. He topped his tournament with a third-round win over top-seeded Stanford’s No. 4 Sihwan Kim.
Iowa’s No. 1 man is the first Hawkeye golfer to receive the conference honor since Jon Feldick in 2007.
