Police have arrested a Cedar Rapids man, alleging that he stole and destroyed a laptop computer last year.

Wesly Sillman, 19, Cedar Rapids, was charged Nov. 22, 2009, with second-degree theft after he allegedly entered an apartment without permission and stole an Apple laptop computer valued at $1,200.

Sillman allegedly entered the residence with two others and took the laptop back to Cedar Rapids.

The laptop was reportedly left at Sillman’s apartment until he was informed Iowa City police officers were investigating the incident.

According to reports, Sillman and his roommate then disposed of the laptop in a creek.

According to police, Sillman admitted he knew the laptop had been stolen and who had stolen it, and he did not contact police to inform them of the laptop’s location, police said. He also reportedly admitted to attempting to conceal information from police.

Second-degree theft is a Class D felony generally punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of up to $7,500.
