Former Iowa women’s basketball player Jamie Cavey will be one of many past Division-I stars participating in a charity basketball game on Friday in Ashland, Kan., as a part of Hoops for Hope.
Proceeds from the game will benefit the WEPAC Alliance, a Kansas-based foundation that funds cancer-preventative care for women in five different Kansas communities. Ten percent of the proceeds will also benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Cavey will be joined by 17 other former Division I hoopsters, including her older sister, Ann Cavey-Jameson, who played at Missouri State from 1998-2002.
Other players include Jackie Stiles, the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division-I women’s basketball history, former WNBA star Cynthia Cooper, and current San Antonio Silver Stars player Ruth Riley.
Six local high-school players will also participate.
Cavey downed the Black and Gold from 2002-05. She still holds the school record for career field goal percentage (.571). She also recorded 1,265 points and 506 rebounds on her way to becoming a two-time all-Big Ten selection.
The charity game will be televised at 8:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Midwest with Patti Phillips and Big Ten Network’s Brenda VanLengen calling the action.
