An evening with the ‘Schmemmys’
The Creative Arts Emmys (or as host Kathy Griffin calls them the “Schmemmys”) occurred last weekend (though it’ll technically air today on E!), and I wanted to point out a few winners (and losers) that you need to be sure to check out.
The first is “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” starring famed funny man Neil Patrick Harris, Outstanding Special Class — Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program winner. The free vid (found at drhorrible.com) has everything — love, hatred, and a singing Harris It doesn’t get any better. (Well, it would if Neil Patrick Harris took off his clothes and sang. Just saying).
The second is one that I hope you’re all aware of, but if you haven’t watched the celebrated clip, you need to get on that faster than PETA at fashion week. Justin Timberlake grabbed the Emmy for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for, what else, “Saturday Night Live.” More specifically, it was “Motherlover” starring Timberlake, Andy Samberg, and Susan Sarandon, that provided that epic win for the former ’N Sync-er.
On a serious note, Farrah Fawcett was one many losses this summer. But before the “Charlie’s Angels,” star passed away, she left Farrah’s Story — a nonfiction documentary chronicling her battle with cancer. While the program didn’t win for its category (Outstanding Nonfiction Special) Farrah’s Story is something that everyone should see, if only to remember the gorgeous blond who only had to be an angel for it to always mark her career.
And though she didn’t win this year (“Intervention” nabbed the statue for the category), “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” was nominated for another Creative Arts Emmy because of its pure fabulousness. The show (which follows the comedian and her “Team Griffin” assistants) is always good for a laugh — whether the red-head feeds her mom a box of wine or dresses up in hot pink and goes shopping with Paris Hilton. Either way, it’s worth tuning in.
Surviving cancer
“Survivor” — an exciting show to watch specifically to ogle half-naked hotties run around remote locations every Thursday night for a few months. Jeff Probst is a personal favorite of mine, but there have been a fair number of gorgeous men who have appeared.
One of the best was Ethan Zohn — the beyond-gorgeous winner of “Survivor: Africa.” Looks aren’t the only thing this man brings though — he also began a grass-roots soccer campaign to help with HIV/AIDS prevention in Africa. Zohn was diagnosed with adult Hodgkin’s lymphoma (cancer affecting the lymph system) and went through a summer of intense chemotherapy. He recently finished treatments and went back to get tested again, only to find out it had returned — which he announced earlier this week via his Twitter account (EthanZohn: My canzer is back. But it has no chance. Together we will destroy this monster).
Here’s hoping the sexy reality star and activist can push through.
