Botchway bids City Council, School District farewell
City Councilor Kingsley Botchway announced that the July 17 Iowa City City Council meeting will be his last.

The councilor is leaving his city position, as well as his position in the Iowa City School District, for a job with the Waterloo schools.
Botchway has been the director of equity and engagement for the School District for four years.
On July 16, the Waterloo School Board approved Botchway as its new chief officer of human resources and equity.
He will replace Bev Smith, who held that position for nearly 30 years before deciding to retire.
According to an email to The Daily Iowan earlier this month, City Attorney Eleanor Dilkes said the City Council can either fill a vacant seat by appointment or call for a special election to replace Botchway.
Botchway served as mayor pro term from 2015-17. He was re-elected in the last election, and his current term began in January.
