Iowa tried with everything it had.

Facing an 8-point deficit against Wisconsin on Nov. 9 in Madison, Matt Hankins picked off Badger quarterback Jack Coan in the fourth quarter to set Iowa up with favorable field position.

But just as the Hawkeye offense had done all game, it settled for a field goal.

Wisconsin scored touchdowns, Iowa made field goals, and that led to a 24-22 Badger victory at Camp Randall Stadium.

Keith Duncan made Iowa history by making his 20th, 21st, and 22nd field goals of the season to set a program record, but it wasn’t enough to leave Madison with a victory.

Iowa had a chance to tie the game with 3:12 remaining after Stanley tossed a 75-yard touchdown pass to Tyrone Tracy to make the score 24-22, Wisconsin. Iowa failed the ensuing 2-point conversion, however, and the Badgers closed it out.

Wisconsin did just enough to overcome a strong Hawkeye defense. Coan tossed a 27-yard touchdown to Badger receiver Quintez Cephus in the third that gave Wisconsin a 21-6 lead. The Hawkeyes fought back after going down two scores, but Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor ran the clock out at the end of the game.

He ran wild once again, racking up 250 rushing yards and grounding the Hawkeyes.

On the other side of things, Iowa couldn’t put enough together. It put up only 93 total yards of offense in the first half before finishing with 295.
