Three Iowa City residents attempted to rob a man while threatening to use a gun to shoot him in the head.

Nyiesha Lawson, 19; Javoni Butler, 22; and Jeradin Jones, 19, were all charged Aug. 27 with second-degree robbery. Butler was also charged with first-offense OWI and driving with a suspended license.

According to the arrest affidavit, Lawson told the alleged victim she was going to “take everything he has.” Butler and Jones then restrained the man while Lawson searched him, the affidavit said.

The alleged victim saw Jones had a handgun.

When the alleged victim tried to get away, the affidavit said, he said he felt cold metal on the back of his head and thought the gun was being pointed at him, so he stopped trying to leave the scene.

The three stole a backpack and somewhere between $50-$70, the affidavit said.

After receiving the call regarding the robbery, the affidavit said, police officers noticed the smell of marijuana coming from Butler’s car and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a search. Butler admitted to smoking marijuana, and his license has been suspended since Aug. 13.

Second-degree robbery is a Class-C felony.
