Iowa City police have arrested and charged a 15-year-old male with reckless use of a firearm and intimidation with a dangerous weapon in connection with the June 13 shooting on the 1200 block of Baker Street, according to a press release.
Reckless use of a firearm is classified as an aggravated misdemeanor, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon is a Class C felony.
According to the release, the investigation is still ongoing with possible connections to the shooting incidents in the early morning hours of June 17. More arrests and charges are expected. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
Police responded to reports of numerous gunshots near Mercer Park on June 13 at approximately 5:51 p.m., and located two cars involved in the shooting on June 14, along with persons of interest.
Police responded to two more incidents on June 17 at the intersections of Benton and Michael Streets and Wayne and Arthur Streets at 12:45 a.m. and 3:13 a.m., respectively. At a neighborhood meeting that evening, Iowa City police Capt. Denise Brotherton said they have developed a task force to investigate the crimes.
