Iowa City man accused of threatening police, using daughter as a shield

Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of being violent toward police while using his daughter as a shield.

Justin Halter, 40, 3765 475th St. S.W., was charged Feb. 1 with dominion of a firearm by a felon, child endangerment, first-degree harassment, and interference with official acts.

According to the arrest affidavit, Halter possessed a firearm in his vehicle while driving with his daughter.

Halter allegedly held up his daughter in front of him while exiting his vehicle and telling deputies that they were all going to die. He allegedly refused to drop his gun or his daughter and had to be tased in order to be subdued.

Dominion of a firearm by a felon is a Class-D felony.
