Authorities have accused a Mount Vernon man of a variety of offenses.

Skylar Smith, 31, has been charged with third or subsequent possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts, and driving while barred.

According to the arrest affidavit, Smith was seen pulling into a driveway and turning off his headlights. When a deputy came up to the vehicle, the affidavit said, Smith tried to run.

The deputy reportedly found a clear plastic bag in Smith’s vehicle with a powder substance, the affidavit said, which Smith said was heroin.

Smith has two previous drug convictions: one in 2015 and one in February.

Third or subsequent possession of a controlled substance is a Class-D felony.
