Man faces eluding, drug charges

Authorities have accused a Middle Grove, New York, male of attempting to avoid arrest.

Jacob Wright, 37, was charged with eluding officers and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an arrest affidavit, a deputy attempted to stop Wright in his vehicle using lights and sirens, and Wright failed to stop.

Wright proceeded to engage in a high-speed chase with deputies, going 25 mph over the speed limit, the affidavit said. During the chase, Wright threw out two backpacks from his vehicle, which deputies recovered.

In the backpacks, deputies reportedly found a glass pipe with a white, powdery substance, the affidavit said. The substance tested positive as methamphetamine.

Eluding officers is a Class-D felony.

Woman accused of theft

Authorities have accused an Iowa City female of theft.

Emma Kaeding, 20, 2401 Highway 6 E., was charged with second-degree theft.

According to an arrest affidavit, Kaeding stole $2,265 worth of her roommate’s clothing and tried to sell some of it at Plato’s Closet.

Kaeding returned $1,221 worth of clothing to the roommate, the affidavit said, and the rest of the clothing remains missing.

Second-degree theft is a Class-D felony.
