Acclaimed indie-rock band Halfloves will perform at the Mill, 120 E. Burlington St., at 8 p.m. Friday. The performance comes about a month after the band opened for indie band Car Seat Headrest at Gabe’s, 330 E. Washington St. The band will be supported by opener Caleb Condit, an electronic musician.

Halfloves is an indie-rock band based in Iowa City that mixes pop sensibilities and anthemic guitar riffs with high-quality, electronically tinged production. The band released a self-titled album in 2016 and a new single in 2017, “Wrong Songs.” The début album from the band was produced by Brandon Darner, a former member of the band Slipknot and a producer known for his work with Imagine Dragons and The Envy Corps.

The band has received considerable acclaim from publications all across Iowa, with the Iowa Informer labeling the group as “the best currently active rock band in Iowa.” Little Village said, “Halfloves is one of the most prominent bands in Iowa today,” and the Ames Tribune had equally high praise, saying, “This is an Iowa band you need to know … they’ve matured into an excellent indie-rock band capable of weaving tones together into a bright, rocking, and melodic dose of pure pop.”

Halfloves employs a unique blend of music that lends itself to high-energy songs that are infectiously fun. In 2016, the band released a music video for its popular song “Not Too Keen,” which premièred on the popular music publication Paste’s website. The band has also released music videos for the songs “No Suspicion,” “Who Are You?,” and “It’s Easy to Love.”

The band has been a guest on the online show Hear Here Presents, based in Milwaukee. The show has indie musicians from across the country perform, with an emphasis on high-quality audio mixes and top notch filmmaking to create a multidimensional, intimate viewing experience for all music lovers, no matter their location.

While the band plays many shows around Iowa, it has ventured all over the Midwest, from Nebraska to Illinois to Wisconsin. The band has previously performed at the Englert, the IMU, and Blue Moose. Halfloves also made an appearance at the yearly 80/35 Music Festival in Des Moines, which Car Seat Headrest will headline this summer.

Show opener Caleb Condit is an electronic musician that employs the use of handmade modular synthesizers, guitars, vocals, and samples. The show is sure to be a high-energy affair and will translate well to the Mill’s intimate venue. Tickets for the show will be $8.
