Iowa City Police investigating gunshot incident

UPDATE (Wednesday, 7 p.m.: The police have located the driver and the vehicle involved in this incident.

The Iowa City Police Department is investigating a gunshot incident occurring on Tuesday.

According to a press release from the City of Iowa City, a man arrived at Mercy Hospital at 4 a.m. on Tuesday with a gunshot wound to his groin.

The victim said a man came up to him & pointed a handgun at him, the release said.

When the victim tried to push the gun away, the release said, the gun went off, hitting the victim.

The victim received a ride to the hospital from a passerby, the release said.

The suspect is described as a man wearing a black face mask & hoodie, about 5 feet 4 inches, & “heavy set.” The victim gave no information on where the incident took place, the release said.

Iowa City Police Investigators would like to speak to the man who took the victim to the hospital, the release said. The release gave pictures of the man’s vehicle, which are shared below.
