Authorities have issued a warrant for a Centerville, Iowa, man on a criminal-mischief charge.

Law enforcement suspects Earl Opperman, 27, committed second-degree criminal mischief on Jan. 24.

According to the arrest affidavit, Opperman was staying at the Heartland Inn in Coralville with his girlfriend and young son when he became enraged, kicking a hole in a wall.

Opperman became verbally abusive and aggressive toward his girlfriend, the affidavit said, and he cut up a mattress with a knife.

As the incident occurred, the affidavit said, Opperman’s girlfriend shielded the child.

 Second-degree criminal mischief is a Class-D felony.
