Man charged with first-degree murder

Authorities on Dec. 12 charged Flannery Huston Kennedy-Meier, 30, with first-degree murder.

The Johnson County Attorney’s Office amended the original charge against him of willful injury causing serious injury after victim Mark A. Meier, 63, died on Dec. 4 of injuries sustained on Nov. 13.

According to a press release, Meier was stabbed in an incident in a Hotz Avenue residence in November. Cause of death was listed as complications from blunt-force injury and manner of death as a homicide.

Kennedy-Meier remains in the custody in the Johnson County Jail.

The case remains under investigation by Iowa City police.
