Authorities have accused a North Liberty man of stealing from a local business.

Troy Woods, 24, was charged Oct. 11 with first-degree theft.

According to the arrest affidavit, an officer was called to Kay’s Jewelers in Coralville by an employee about a theft. Woods was the manager, the affidavit said, and an investigation reportedly found he took merchandise from the store often and issued false cash returns.

Money from false returns taken from merchandise totaled $22,250.82, the affidavit said, and fraudulent refunds for cash totaled $30,745.

Woods allegedly admitted to these thefts, the affidavit said, which exceeded the amount of $50,000.

First-degree theft is a Class-C felony.
