Two opposing cars were involved in a collision at the intersection of Burlington and Governor Streets at approximately 12:20 p.m. July 12, according to Iowa City police Investigator Andy Rich.

The collision obstructed traffic for nearly an hour, but traffic is now normal.

Details of the incident are still developing.

“We’re just trying to figure out exactly who had what light, and who turned into who, and stuff like that,” Rich said. “It’s hard to say right now. We’re still looking at the scene with skid marks, gouge marks, damage, lining things up.”

One person was transported to the hospital via ambulance after the collision, Rich said. He said he did not know the status of the driver’s injuries at the time.

“It seems like both drivers are going to be OK,” Rich said. “Their cars did exactly what they were supposed to do as far as crush and air bags and all that kind of stuff. It was a pretty good example of modern engineering, I’ll tell you that.”
