Longtime Iowa broadcaster Bob Brooks dies at 89

University of Iowa and Cedar Rapids broadcasting legend Bob Brooks passed away on Saturday. He was 89 years old.

Brooks covered Iowa football for more than 50 years, and his broadcasting life lasted more than seven decades. He covered six Hawkeye Rose Bowl games.

A graduate of the school of journalism at Iowa in 1948, Brooks started attending Iowa football games in 1939 with Nile Kinnick donning the Black and Gold.

Brooks was the first man to broadcast high school sports in Cedar Rapids, and was named Iowa Sportscaster of the Year a total of 10 times.

He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Iowa Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame, Iowa High School Football Association Hall of Fame, Iowa Hall of Pride, and both Cedar Rapids Washington and Kennedy High Schools Hall of Fames.
