Stopping hunger

Stopping+hunger

One University of Iowa student takes the lead in helping stop world hunger.

Sophomore Alaina Stills encourages her peers to help raise money for Mary’s Meals.

Mary’s Meals is a nonprofit that provides food for children in their place of education.

The money that is raised goes to impoverished areas in Africa, India, South America and Central America.

First, participants build kitchens in already established schools. Then, community volunteers make food for the children to encourage school attendance.

So far, Mary’s Meals is feeding 1,101,206 children every day.

Stills is leading a T-shirt fundraiser across campus to raise awareness and funds.

Mary’s Meals’ motto is: a simple solution to world hunger.

“My favorite part [of the organization] is that when you learn about it, it really is so simple and easy to help,” Still said.
