Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of punching and choking a woman.

Shamari Smith, 21, was charged with domestic-abuse assault impeding air/blood flow on Sunday.

According to online court documents, Smith and the woman have been dating for more than a year. The two got into a fight, and Smith allegedly punched her in face, causing red marks.

He also reportedly choked her using two hands, causing visible scrapes on her neck.

The woman stated she could not breathe when Smith was choking her.
