Man charged with first-degree burglary

Authorities have accused an Iowa City man with breaking into a residence and threatening to take someone’s life.

Vernard Archer, 30, was charged with first-degree burglary and two charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

According to online court documents, Archer entered a woman’s apartment while she was asleep on the couch.

Once she woke up, Archer shoved her down, held a knife to her neck, and threatened to kill her.

Archer fled when the woman screamed and alerted other residents that she was being attacked.

First-degree burglary is a Class-B felony. Intimidation with a dangerous weapon is a Class-C felony.
