Man accused of dropping child

Authorities have accused a local man of harming his child.

James Caldwell, 36, was charged Dec. 1, 2013, with child endangerment/serious injury.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Caldwell’s wife took their child to Mercy Hospital because the child had suffered a bodily injury.

Caldwell reportedly was changing the child’s diaper when the injury occurred.

Initially, he allegedly wasn’t truthful to police on how the injury happened.

He reportedly eventually admitted to officials to being under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

He said he accidentally dropped his child, which resulted in the bodily injury.

Child endangerment/serious injury is a Class-D felony.
