Athletics committee discussed plans for the upcoming year

The University of Iowa held their first Presidential Committee on Athletics (PCA) meeting on Wednesday evening, during which President Sally Mason, Athletics Director Gary Barta, as well as several other advisors met to review the past year of UI athletics, and to discuss the goals of this coming year. Points of discussion included:

Emphasis on the well-being of the student athlete (physically, mentally, and academically)

Keeping the academic/personal records of student athletes confidential within the committee

Hawkeye football ticket sales; the UI is currently 9,000 tickets sold ahead of this time last year

Emphasizing the importance of student attendance at UI athletic events

Implementing the new program of free tickets to Hawkeye football and men’s basketball to all student athletes for the UI

President Sally Mason and Gary Barta expressed a lot of enthusiasm for this coming year of athletics and are hopeful for the future of the Hawkeyes.
