Man who drove into Scheels sentenced

An Iowa City man was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Monday.

Joseph Moreno, 24, crashed a car into the Coral Ridge Mall Scheels store while intoxicated and attempted to burgle the store in December 2012. Before crashing his car, he fired a handgun several times in his apartment during an argument with roommates.

Moreno was convicted of first-degree criminal mischief, OWI, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and reckless use of a firearm. A charge for first-degree burglary and an additional charge for reckless use of a firearm were dropped in his plea agreement.

Moreno pleaded guilty to all charges in October.
