Local man allegedly closed account after issuing check

An Iowa City man allegedly closed a University of Iowa Credit Union account after issuing a check.

Daniel Hodges, 18, was charged on Feb. 9 with second-degree theft.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Hodges wrote a personal check to Carousel 2 dealership as a down payment on the purchase a vehicle. Hodges wrote the personal check from his University of Iowa Credit Union account for the amount of $1,500, the complaint said.

The staff at Carousel 2 attempted to deposit the check written by Hodges the following week, however they were unable to do so because the checking account was closed after the check was written, the complaint said.

Second-degree theft is a Class-D felony.
