Area man allegedly chokes woman

A Coralville man allegedly broke door a down and attacked a woman.

Ralph Costanzo Jr., 55, was accused on Tuesday with domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood-causing injury.

According to a Coralville police complaint, officers responded to a domestic assault and spoke with Costanzo, who said there was a verbal argument. The victim said Costanzo broke the door open, jumped on the victim — who was laying on a bed — and put hands and forearm on the victim’s chest, the complaint said.

Costanzo’s forearm cut off airflow on front of the victim’s neck. The victim also has marks on her chest, the complaint said.

Domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood-causing injury is a Class-D felony.
